Scammer Gets 5 Years in Prison After Swiping $20 Million via Fake Coinbase Websites

A U.S. federal decide has sentenced an Indian man to 5 years in jail for creating faux variations of the Coinbase web site and utilizing them to steal greater than $20 million from duped clients of the American crypto alternate. 

Based on courtroom filings, Chirag Tomar, 31, labored with co-conspirators to create “spoofed” variations of Coinbase websites that they might hyperlink to in emails despatched to actual Coinbase clients. 

Victims would then enter their login credentials on the faux website, permitting Tomar and his associates to steal the info and use it to empty customers’ Coinbase wallets. In December 2023, when Tomar flew into Atlanta, he was instantly apprehended by U.S. authorities.
